Thank you for considering greyhound adoption
through Rescued Racers.

Please read the complete questionnaire fully BEFORE you commence entering in your replies.

The purpose of this online application is to allow us to gather as much information from you the prospective owner as possible, without the need for lengthy telephone conversations.

The questions asked are the same as those we use when responding to adoption applications over the telephone, as they allow us to decide if there is a need to proceed to the next step of the adoption process, that is to perform a home visit.

We would ask you to take a moment to read the questions and then fill out the information in each section as requested. At the end of the form click "submit" and you will receive a confirmation e-mail message from us by return to verify that your application has arrived.

Please take your time, answer the questions honestly, and if there is any additional information that you would like to add, there is a section at the end for you to do so.

Please Note fields marked with * are REQUIRED fields and MUST be completed otherwise your application will be deemed void and will be ignored.

E-mail addresses are never sold or passed on to third parties for spamming purposes, this application will be dealt with in the strictest of confidence.

Due to the overwhelming amount of Spam mail that we receive Rescued Racers has taken steps to introduce the use of Spam filtering software. We therefore cannot guarantee that e-mails from "Hotmail", "Yahoo" or other online e-mail will always get through. Please, wherever possible use an ISP based e-mail address.

Thank you.

Rescued Racers Pre-Adoption
Reality Check

Before going any further, please consider what you are doing. When you adopt a greyhound it does not give you the right to a trail run. Greyhounds are sensitive, they have feelings and emotions just like us and will not understand why they are once again being uprooted from their home. They will not understand why they are being banished to the garden. They will not understand that the family who welcomed them into their home on a whim is now disillusioned with them the same way they would get fed up with a toy.

When you invite a greyhound into your family invite them as a family member, not a passing fancy or a conversation piece. Many people will argue that they are doing the ex-racer a favour by saving them from being put to sleep and that they should be thankful for any home. There are fates worse than death for a greyhound, and a life of abuse, neglect and isolation is just one of them. Count on having your greyhound for at least another eight years. Their longevity of life is a characteristic of the breed. Count on spending money on them for things like food and veterinary bills. Count on spending every day what ever the weather walking, grooming and cleaning up after your greyhound. Count on making sacrifices, whether it's chewed shoes, accidents or compromising on that annual holiday. Count on your greyhound slowing down and not being quite so playful and entertaining as he or she used to be when they grow older. Don't get a greyhound just for the children. No matter how sincere a child's promise to take care of the animal might be, it is usually mum or dad who often ends up doing the majority of the work. Remember - teaching junior the meaning of responsibility does not mean the dog has to miss their dinner. Greyhounds are usually good with children, but they may not be as playful as many children would like. Rescued Racers will NEVER home a greyhound as a gift or a Christmas present. People should always make a conscience decision about getting their own greyhound and that greyhound deserves to be the centre of attention when it arrives at their new home, and not put in line like one of the many trinkets amidst the hubbub of celebration.

REMEMBER
A GREYHOUND IS FOR LIFE!!!

Thank you so very much for taking the time to complete the online application form. Information provided on this form will help us to determine your suitability for greyhound adoption. You will receive an E-mail from us shortly, to verify that your application has been received.

We will then study your application, and a representative from Rescued Racers will be in contact with you soon to discuss the next step of the adoption process.

Thank you once again for your time. It has been greatly appreciated especially when one of our greyhounds finds a new home and a second chance at life.
