Hot Off The Press

This is a look at issues that are hitting the headlines within the greyhound racing industry. At present, the most disturbing news is the planned introduction of greyhound racing to Vietnam.

In a article headed - "Vietnam set to go to the dogs" it states

"Vietnam has paved the way for a night at the dogs by approving plans for its first greyhound racing track.

The $4.95 million joint venture between the British Virgin Island registered Hemlock Services who have a 70% stake and the Ba Ria-Vung Tua Tourism Company hopes to attract both foreign and Vietnamese punters.

The track will be sited at Vung Tau City some 75 miles southeast of Ho Chi Minh City, and the first dogs - pedigree greyhounds from Ireland are expected to begin chasing the hare sometime in 1999. The investors said the government has approved an investment license.

Gambling is a dirty word in communist Vietnam and as a leading social evil is banned".

If we can find out any more information we will let you know. Keep watching this space for further updates.

And what do you think the latest little scam to come out of the Emerald Isle is? Well simply put they want you to lease your greyhound bitch for breeding. Look at the advert below which appeared in the October edition of "The Greyhound Star".

It seems in my opinion that when one door closes these people always find another one to open for them. The question that I am asking myself now is this - what will become of the unwanted pups and greyhounds who don't make the grade? I have said it time and time again, just because you are using "quality" stock it doesn't automatically qualify you to have "quality" offspring. Again it will be the responsibility of the greyhound rescues and the welfare centres to bear the brunt of the this insane idea, or worse still, and this really doesn't bear thinking about  - horror of horrors - SPAIN. (Since this advert was exposed on this site and after a number of complaints were lodged with the "Greyhound Star" they had no other option but to refuse to re-run the advert again)
