1st Sunday Step Out For 2008
We will be having our first Sunday Step Out for 2008 on Sunday March 16th and we're off to Knoll Park in Neath. We'll meet outside the cafe by the lake at 2.30PM but if there is anyone who isn't too familiar about where to go, then might I suggest meeting at McDonalds car park @ 2.15PM on the A465 just before Trade Centre Wales. So why not come along to this, our first outing for the year. We look forward to seeing as many people and dogs as possible both old and new.
Rescued Racers Sponsored Walk
Sunday September 2nd saw the 1st Rescued Racers Sponsored Walk held at Roath Park in Cardiff. Firstly I'd like to say a very big "Thank You" to Hannah who's idea it was originally. The day started a little overcast and cloudy with just the hint of a gentle breeze which was perfect for what was in store. The volunteers began to arrive around 10:45 and after a quick cup of coffee, Hannah was ready to get started. Dogs and people gathered at the "Wishing Well" and began the first of what would be ten laps around the lake at the park. With Hannah wearing a striking new bright red Rescued Racers sash and baseball hat and a stunning red rosette modelled by Sarah the greyhound they both really did look the part. A lot of interest was shown by passer-bys and some more pledges were collected on the day, plus all the volunteers had leaflets to give out around the course. After 4 laps we decided to take a break and have a get-together with lunch and a coffee and reflect on the proceedings so far. Billy the greyhound however had other ideas, voicing his disapproval at being kept standing, he was ready for another lap as soon as he'd finished the last one.
With each lap being timed the walkers were averaging a lap of the lake in around 33 minutes considering at times the doddery old crock commonly known as the Chairman was tagging along at the rear, however the laps were sometimes a little faster, and sometimes a little slower depending on the amount of interest that was shown by the general public.
With the walkers seeing their target in sight there was a very slight drizzle of rain but this couldn't put a dampener on what was a wonderful and fun day for all who turned up. We will be asking The South Wales Echo to run this story after we have collected all the outstanding pledge money, so if there are any sponsorship forms out there, I would ask that you please send them back to Liz by the end of the month if possible as that's when we want to get a total and display it on the fundraisers page of the website.
So in closing, once again a very big thank you to Hannah, her friend Kate, Nancy and not forgetting the ever vocal Billy for doing every single lap, a big thank you to everyone who turned up and supported us on the day, and to those who could not be there for whatever reason but supported us with pledges you all have our thanks. Don't forget I've posted some photos in the "Homed Hounds" section and more to come so please have a look, and if you have any you took on the day, email them in and we'll get them on the board as well.
Many thanks again
Regards
Sam
4th Rescued Racers Sunday Step Out
Our latest Sunday Step Out was held at Roath Park in Cardiff on Sunday May 20th. This has been the best turn out yet and lots of the new owners who have recently had their new companions were present. Lynda and David came with Sarah, Julie with Ben, and Daniel and Peta with the ever handsome Louis, also regulars Bob and Nancy who brought the ever tuneful Billy and the handsome Toby, Jo and Jeremy with little Sarah, Jan and Shannon, Liz and the kids with Morse and Phantom and Bella and Cleo brought me. The weather was great, the craic was good and the response from the public was tremendous and best of all a home check, oh and if your wondering - no apple tart but we did have a cuppa in the cafe. All in all a great PR exercise for the Charity and its somewhere we'll look forward to returning to very soon. Thanks again to everyone who attended it was great to see you all.
3rd Rescued Racers Sunday Step Out
Our 3rd Sunday Step Out was held on the second Sunday in September at Porthkerry Country Park in the Vale of Glamorgan. A few people attended and the sun shone in its usual fashion. We met up later for a chat and a cuppa in the cafe but because of the low turn out we decided not to stay very long afterwards although we did have time to take a few photos for prosperity.
We have decided to halt the walks now for the winter months and we will begin again on the last Sunday of the month at Bryn Bach Country Park near Tredegar as this seems a central venue and they have a lovely cafe as well. We have decided on Sunday March 25th as the Sunday prior to that is Mothering Sunday
So put a note in your diary - Sunday Walk March 25th Bryn Bach Country Park.
See you there.
2nd Rescued Racers Sunday Step Out Another Success
Our second "Sunday Step Out" was held at Bryn Bach Country Park near Tredegar on Sunday June 18th. Although we didn't have the numbers due to it being Fathers Day the sun shone and the atmosphere was good. Bob and Nancy arrived from Tintern with Billy and Misty, Liz, Pete and the family came with Morse and Phantom. As well that one of newest adopters to joint the Rescued Racers family was Adam and Linda with their little boy George brought Kira who had been adopted just two weeks ago. She's looking a picture and by all accounts she has wooed the whole street. Everybody loves her and she is a great ambassador for the greyhound breed. This was a lovely park to visit and afterwards we all descended into the cafe for a cup of coffee and a delicious slice of apple tart and custard. The kids all enjoyed themselves as well as there is a huge playground with swings and roundabouts to keep them occupied. All in all it was a great day out and we will visit this park again. Why not go along yourself and for more information point your browser here you'll enjoy it.
1st Rescued Racers Sunday Step Out Big Success
Our first ever "Sunday Step Out" held at The Knoll Country Park on Sunday March 19th was a big success. The weather was fine and sunny and the turn out was more than I had expected, so thanks to everyone who attended. We had Helen who came the whole way from Usk with Seren, Susan & Linzi with Maddy, Jan with Shannon, Liz with Morse (Phantom is recovering after an operation to replace a ruptured cruciate ligament) and Bella and Cleo who brought me. Special mention goes to little Sarah brought by Jo & Jeremy. She is looking really well and all the scars have now healed after her ordeal with the Bull Mastiff at the dog show in Rogerstone. I will post a few photos later when I get a little time. So thanks again to everyone who participated and we hope to see you again at the next Sunday Step Out.
As I mentioned we're aiming to have a Sunday Step Out every 3rd Sunday of every 3rd month at 3pm at a venue you chose (unless there is a prior fundraiser arranged), so get your thinking caps on people for a venue for the next outing on the 3rd Sunday in June.
