This is Rusty.
He is the first of my trio. Rusty is the grandfather of the tribe as he is now 10 years old. We call him "The General" because he uses those big sad brown eyes and gives you "the look" and when that happens there isn't much that you can do so he usually gets his own way. He is totally ruined and spoilt beyond belief but whose fault is that? - what can you do.
Rusty raced at Catford Stadium under the name of "Ivor Survivor". Rusty, although loved his racing hated the rain (and still does) and one night on a rainy cold November the traps opened and Rusty decided that it would be better to jump the puddle in front of his trap rather than go through it and get his feet wet, as you can imagine he finished dead last - never mind that's greyhounds for you.
Rusty was sadly laid to rest after suffering a stroke on May 5th 2002 4 days after his 12th birthday.
This is Sunny.
Sunny (he's the handsome one with the four legs) was rescued from a rather ruthless and uncaring greyhound agent back in early 1994 when he had just turned 3 years old. At his race trial he refused to come out of the traps and when he did he only went as far as the finish line (approx 100 yards) he was branded a "rag" that would never race let alone win. However after 3 months working with him he began to slowly show some trust and I eventually gave him a race. Third in his first outing was a good effort, and he went on to win a further 12 races before he broke his hock in of all places - the front garden when he was running around like a fool. He is now 7 and although he suffers with a heart condition called Cardiomyopathy I feel he still lives a full and happy life with the use of drugs. Since this page was written Sunny has been taken by the angels after suffering for several weeks with cancer of the prostrate gland. You can find his story by following the Sunny's Story link..
He was a great dog and will be sadly missed.
