Kate - our ninth contribution (by Bev West)
Kate came to us from a Welsh organisation called Greyhound Welfare just over two weeks ago. I had first though of a retired greyhound after an initial introduction to the breed whilst on holiday via a poster at the Exeter R.S.P.C.A. It was advertising a local Greyhound Rescue Centre so after discussing the idea with my wife I decided to contact Dawn Abraham with a view to adoption.

After having discussed the adoption process with Dawn I then contacted Steve at Rescued Racers who gave me the low-down on everything from size to the temperament of greyhounds which at that stage was invaluable information as I wasn't sure whether we would be best suited to a dog or a bitch.
I then got in contact again with Dawn and I thought at that point it would have been easier to adopt a child than a greyhound from Dawn, but in this game you have got to be 150% sure that that greyhound will be going into a home for life and not just until the novelty wears off and then the dog is back to start the process all over again. Finally Dawn rang with the news that there was a greyhound bitch who had been abandoned, who had been starved, physically and mentally abused and left for dead. This little girl was now ready for re-homing and with the home visit a success, the day arrived when Kate came home.

Thank you Greyhound Welfare for the opportunity to give a greyhound a second chance.

Dylan - our tenth contribution (by Lou Lucas)
I have visited your site and just wanted to say how much I enjoyed reading about the rescued greyhounds. I thought I would tell you a little about Dylan who came to us a little over 1 year ago, from Dawn at Greyhound Welfare. He had been in kennels since the previous December, after being found abandoned in a stolen van in West Wales. It really was love at first sight when Dawn brought him to our home.

He was a little shy at first but soon settled into family life. He is very obedient and the children have taught him to sit and lie down on command. He loves to socialise with people and other dogs and his favourite time of day is when he gets to play with the local children in the park. He loves all the attention he receives! He has habits which keep us constantly amused...he loves to steal the contents of the laundry bin and scatter them all over the house, usually when we have company, he will attempt to eat anything that has been placed in the bin and mornings would not be the same without Dylan grabbing hold of our clothing, dragging us down the stairs, placing us in the middle of the kitchen and then sitting to await the attention he requires! He will bark at just about anything that moves and can frequently be found trying to chase spiders. He is not affectionately known as Mad Dylan without good reason! Dylan has the most amazing personality and is a very special member of our family. None of us can imagine life without him. Louise and family
