| Sandy Louise - our
twelfth contribution (by Colleen
Long age 13) This is the story of Sandy Louise. Colleen has written to me all the way from America to tell us how she came to have Sandy Louise. She loves all her animals which include 6 dogs, 4 rabbits and 2 cats. She says that Sandy Louise is her dog and they do everything together. Well Colleen here's the story of Sandy Louise (sorry but I had to edit it just a little. Hope you understand). |
| Hello, my name is Colleen and I am 13 years of age. My family and I own a retired racing greyhound who we called Sandy Louise. Sandy Louise is 9 years old and we adopted her from The Greyhound Rescue Society of Sugar Loaf, New York. We went to Karen Lorenzo's home and took Spanky our 6 year old Springer/Labrador cross with us because we wanted to make sure that the new dog would get along with him 'cause Spanky isn't all that friendly when it comes to other cats and dogs. When we got inside we saw a black & white greyhound that we liked and that Spanky got alone with. It was a hard choice, because my sister and I had two choices; both black & white and both females - one very large and one not so large. the very large one was shy and timid, the other naughty and fun - her name was Jitterbug (later to become Sandy Louise). After signing the forms and paying her adoption fee we brought Jitterbug home to our house in New Jersey where she now lives with the other dogs, the rabbits and of course the cats. Sandy Louise is my dog and she is very special to me. She has some bad habits like stealing food but she's fun and nice to be around. None of the other dogs at home will annoy her because she will bite them. She is a huge couch potato but greyhounds are great dogs and it is sad to remember all the abuse she and other greyhounds went through before they were killed or better still adopted by nice families. If you want a fun, intelligent loyal dog and save a life as well then adopt a greyhound and you will be rewarded with a wonderful friend and companion. |
