Bob - our thirty second contribution (by  Jane Wellings)
Dear Sam,

I hope you don't mind me mailing you, but you were of great help to me earlier in the year.  I telephoned you in April of this year when my rescued greyhound (Bob) was diagnosed with ligament cancer in her rear leg.  I had only had her since November 2001 but she and I became best friends very quickly.  I eventually went with the advice of my local vet and her leg was amputated on April 15th.  After a lot of love and care she made a fantastic recovery and within weeks was running around with more energy and vitality than she had ever had.  My Mum and Dad who had advised me against the operation admitted that I had made the right decision when they saw how well she was.  In the past 7 months she has continued to win people's hearts and has become a bit of a local celebrity.

Unfortunately in the past few days she started to cry with pain, we went to the vets and despite their help and in the space of a few hours her stump swelled and she became very distressed.  The vet was convinced that the cancer had returned and made it clear that the prognosis was poor for her (she was 12 and a half).  I could not bear to see her in pain and so I had to make the awful decision to put her to sleep.  I stayed with her until the end and we cuddled.  Our house is now very empty and I am devastated.

I simply wanted to thank you (be it belatedly) for your very kind words and support at such a difficult time.  Bob has gained many friends in the past 13 months and they are all being very supportive to me.  I know I will never replace her but I hope that in the future I will be able to meet and love another greyhound in the way that I loved Bob.  I miss her talking to me and her cuddles, not to mention the fun she used to have running at me as if she'd never have time to stop!

I hope to be able to contact you one day to see if you have a suitable
candidate for a loving home.
